Meeting Points & Getting There

Where does the 10 AM downtown tour meet?
At 222 Fifth Ave, San Diego — right next to the Gaslamp Quarter Arch. Your guide arrives early with a blue umbrella so you can’t miss us.
Where does the 3 PM Old Town tour meet?
In Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, next to the Robinson-Rose House restrooms. Same blue umbrella.
Where should I park?
Downtown, there are garages within a couple of blocks of the Gaslamp Arch — see our full parking guide for the safest, closest, easiest-exit options. Old Town has free state park lots that fill by mid-day.
Can I join last minute without booking?
Yes — walk-ups are welcome. Booking is recommended so your guide expects you (and so we can reach you if anything changes), but if you’re passing by at tour time, just join the umbrella.

Pay As You Wish

Is the tour really free?
“Free” is about freedom, not price. Our tours are fun and interactive — we focus on what interests everyone in the group, and we want you to feel like you’re walking with a friend. We practice freedom of speech: we tell you what living in San Diego is really like from our perspective, which may be different from what’s on the news. And we work on the pay-as-you-wish model — at the end of the tour, you pay your guide as much as you feel it was worth. This way everyone can join.
How much do people usually give?
Whatever feels right for them — many guests give what they’d pay for a good tour anywhere. Your guide earns it fresh on every single walk.
Are there discounts?
There’s nothing to discount — you set the price yourself at the end.

Planning Your Visit

How long is each tour?
About two hours at an easy, flat walking pace with plenty of stops and photo breaks — and yes, restroom breaks too.
What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes, water, sunscreen, and a light layer — San Diego’s marine breeze can surprise you even on sunny days.
Is it kid- and wheelchair-friendly?
Yes. The downtown route is flat and stroller-friendly, and we keep a pace everyone can enjoy. Tell your guide about any mobility needs and they’ll adapt.
What if it rains?
Tours run rain or shine — this is San Diego, so it’s mostly shine. Dress for the forecast and we’ll walk.
What’s the best time of year to visit San Diego?
Locals will tell you spring and fall: warm, clear, and less crowded. But honestly, there’s no bad month here — that’s rather the point of San Diego.

I didn’t get my confirmation email — what now?
